The Balancer Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), the organization behind the hacked Balancer decentralized exchange, has taken a step toward recovering stolen funds by sending a "final warning" to the hackers via the blockchain. In a message posted on social media platform X, Balancer management threatens to "take all necessary measures" if the attackers fail to return the funds.
Threat and Offer to Refund Funds
In its message, Balancer urges the hackers to return the stolen funds by the end of Saturday, otherwise, the DAO will initiate "technical, legal, and on-chain measures" to pursue them. If the hackers agree to return the funds, they will be offered a reward, but the amount has not been disclosed.
"We sent a message to all known addresses associated with the hack on Monday. We followed best practices and offered the hackers the opportunity to contact us and return the funds. "We understand that all affected users are awaiting updates and will provide details on the investigation," DAO representatives stated.
Current Developments
As a reminder, on Monday, attackers managed to transfer $128 million worth of StakeWise Staked ETH (OSETH), Wrapped Ether (WETH), and Lido wstETH (wSTETH) tokens to a newly created wallet. To execute the hack, the hackers exploited a vulnerability in the EXACT_OUT function in combination with BatchSwap swaps, resulting in significant losses for the platform.
The situation remains tense, and Balancer users eagerly await further updates on the investigation and possible measures to recover the stolen funds.
