St. Petersburg crypto fraudster Roman Novak, who was kidnapped and murdered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), owed over 6.4 million rubles in Russia, law enforcement agencies reported on November 8, TASS reported.
Roman Novak's Debts
According to a source, Novak's debts exceed the stated amount, and some of them are being collected by force. These are primarily for compensation for damages caused by the crime. Court records indicate that nine enforcement proceedings were opened against Novak, several of which were terminated under Article 46, Part 1, Clauses 3 and 4 of the Law "On Enforcement Proceedings."
Notice of Roman Novak's Murder
On November 7, the 78.ru TV channel reported that Roman Novak and his wife were kidnapped in the UAE. According to preliminary reports, they were kidnapped for extortion, and when the ransom was not paid, the couple was murdered. The Russian Investigative Committee (RIC) has opened a criminal case into the couple's disappearance, classifying it under Article 105, Part 2, Item "a" of the Russian Criminal Code ("Murder of two persons").
According to investigators, all three suspects in the murder have been arrested, and all are Russian nationals. One of them, Konstantin Sh., was previously sentenced to 15 years for drug trafficking.
Extortion in the Novak Family
Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Irina Volk reported that the family's abduction from St. Petersburg was motivated by extortion of cryptocurrency. The criminals rented cars and premises where they held the hostages, indicating a pre-planned operation.
