FTX EU is resuming its operations, albeit in a limited form, allowing users only to request compensation for funds deposited on the exchange.
CySEC, the Cypriot market regulator, has confirmed the addition of a new domain name https://ftxeurope.eu/, through which European customers of the now defunct cryptocurrency exchange can log in, check their balances and request withdrawals. The site has been added to the FTX tab on the website of regulator CySEC and, therefore, must be official and approved.
It is unclear what the timeline is and how much of the deposit users will be able to get back, since the exchange is headed by Sam Bankman-Friede and is in the middle of a long and costly U.S. bankruptcy process. However, operations should be completed by May 1.
Not all European users will receive refunds
This will only affect users who registered through the European version of FTX, and therefore only those registered as of March 2022. Those users who registered earlier and/or registered on the international platform should not receive their funds and request a refund through this site.
What do I need to do?
Once you have logged into the site using your login details, you will be redirected to a page that shows how much money we have on the exchange.
We check that the amount is correct and check the box to the right that the account is ours and the balance is correct. If it is not correct, we can fill in the space provided and indicate how much we think our balance should be.
Recalculating everything on the checkout
.We won't find cryptocurrencies or bitcoins on the bill, but rather a balance in euros. This is because, as stated on the page, all positions are automatically closed when FTX International begins bankruptcy proceedings. It is unclear if this is the right procedure, but there is almost no going back. No, this is not very convenient for users, as the accepted price of $BTC is €16,486, which is significantly lower than today's price.
How much does a withdrawal request cost?
Amounts below €2,000 cost €5 and amounts above €2,000 cost 0.25%. There is no additional cost for this procedure.
What do I have to do to initiate a withdrawal?
As mentioned above, we must confirm the amount. We must then confirm our identity with a text message which will be sent to the cell phone used during registration. The SMS system seems to be quite widespread at the moment and we were not able to get an SMS with a login.
However, you can verify your identity by entering the document number you entered when registering.
Note that you have until May 1 to do all the work.
The time to complete is not unlimited. You have until May 1, 2023 to complete this transaction. Our advice is to try to do it now.
