SingularityNET and the ASI alliance are introducing a self-learning proto-AGI in Minecraft

SingularityNET, a decentralized artificial intelligence network, along with the ASI Alliance, a coalition advocating for artificial superintelligence, has introduced the first self-learning proto-AGI within Minecraft.

This new proto-AGI stands apart from traditional gaming AI, as it has the capacity to adapt, move, and formulate rules based on real-time experiences, marking a significant advancement in the realm of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

The system, known as AIRIS, which stands for Autonomous Intelligent Reinforcement Inferred Symbolism, operates free from predefined rules, enabling it to evolve as it confronts new challenges and stimuli.

The implementation of AIRIS within Minecraft, serving as the initial AGI prototype capable of autonomous learning and adaptation, could pave the way for applications in robotics, automation, and intelligent systems that tackle real-time issues.

Self-Learning in Gaming

The incorporation of AIRIS into Minecraft heralds a novel approach to AI and gaming, as it continuously refines its own set of "rules" drawn from its gameplay experiences.

According to a press release, this AGI prototype adapts its strategies for pathfinding, navigation, and obstacle avoidance on the fly, crafting new rules when faced with unfamiliar scenarios.

AIRIS’s practical application aligns well with the open, unpredictable sandbox environment of Minecraft, providing a vast setting where the AGI prototype can test the limits of autonomous AI learning.

A representative from the ASI Alliance noted that the team needed to "evaluate the system in a more intricate and open three-dimensional environment."

“Minecraft is perfectly suited for this objective — it is widely popular, meets all technical requirements for AI integration, and has already been utilized as a benchmark for reinforcement learning. This will allow us to directly compare AIRIS’s performance against that of existing algorithms,” the statement added.

In discussing the future of artificial intelligence, Ben Goertzel, CEO of SingularityNET and the ASI Alliance, sought to differentiate facts from fiction surrounding AGI.

Goertzel emphasized that AI should function through decentralized processes "for the benefit of humanity," noting that this vision is what "SingularityNET was designed to ensure."

He remarked that large language models (LLMs), like OpenAI's ChatGPT, can perform general tasks, but they do not measure up to AGI in terms of quality, as they do not transcend their training.

Goertzel defined AGI as an AI that is capable of doing "everything humans can do, including the ability to go beyond what it has been taught."
